Sedex Analysis of the Furniture Industry
Description -- Description of the Sedex analysis process including the following steps:
Participation: Joining Sedex For verification , the company must be a Sedex member . This includes registering on the Sedex platform & paying a membership fee .
Self--Assessment Survey: After becoming a member , distributors must complete a self--assessment survey called the Sedex Self--Assessment Questionnaire (SAQ) . SAQ covers many aspects of social & ethical compliance , such as labor standards , health & safety , environmental impact & business practices .
Selection Method: Sedex uses a risk--based approach to selecting stocks based on SAQ responses . Factors such as location , industry , & previous jobs all influence the choice .
Audit Performance: Once selected , vendors will be audited by a Sedex audit firm or a third party auditor . The audit firm will frequently contact the vendor to prepare for the audit & provide information about the audit's resources , objectives , & needs .
On--Site Audit: The auditor visits the supplier & performs an on--site audit . Audits include reviewing documents , interviewing staff & management , & inspecting facilities to ensure compliance with social & ethical standards . Auditors will focus on areas such as work , health & safety , working hours , pay & management .
Audit Report: The auditor will prepare a report regarding findings , observations & recommendations following the on--site inspection . The report is usually shared with the seller , & sometimes with the buyer who requested the inspection .
Correction: If any discrepancies or areas for improvement are identified during the audit , the seller must develop & implement an accurate plan to resolve the problem . Sedex supports a continuous improvement approach where suppliers work to solve identified problems & improve their relationships & ethical values .
Subsequent Investigations: In some cases , especially when serious violations were identified during the initial investigation , a retrial may also include an investigation to ensure that the seller took the correct action .
Information sharing: Sedex allows merchants to share certificates & other relevant information with their customers or other Sedex members on the platform .
It is important to remember that a Sedex audit is not a certification but an evaluation of the seller's performance & ethics . However , Sedex members may use audit data to demonstrate their commitment to social responsibility & meet customer or business needs .
